Tennessee Man Arrested for Nearly Running Over Batavia Churchgoers
Mark Logan, director of operations for the Northgate Free Methodist Church in Batavia, New York, shared security footage with Spectrum News showing a Tennessee man nearly running over churchgoers in the church’s parking lot. The video captures the moment when the vehicle approached the congregation unexpectedly, prompting them to seek refuge. Logan expressed relief that no one was harmed, stating, “I do feel sorry for the gentleman and I am thanking the Lord that my people are safe.”
Dramatic surveillance footage released by police shows the incident unfolding in a Batavia field. The video depicts the car moving at high speed toward the churchgoers, creating a dangerous situation. The driver, Paul Hussey, was arrested and charged with four counts of attempted assault with a dangerous instrument in the first degree, along with several counts of reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a controlled substance, DWI, and driving while ability impaired by drugs. Hussey is currently being held at the Genesee County Jail on $25,000 cash bail.
Authorities have not yet determined why Hussey was in the area or why he was driving through the field. Church members involved in the incident emphasized that they believe their survival was due to divine intervention. The event has raised concerns about public safety and the need for vigilance in communities.
The incident highlights the importance of accountability and honest dealing, as seen in the biblical teaching of Luke 12:48. It also underscores the value of protecting the vulnerable, a principle echoed in Proverbs 31:8-9. The church’s response reflects a commitment to justice, mercy, and humble service, aligning with the broader mission of many Wesleyan-Holiness churches.
