Two Arrested For Defrauding Job Seekers, Including Church Members, Of Over US$40,000

Two individuals, Patricia Muyambo Magazini and Mandras Muyambiwa, have been arrested in Chipinge after allegedly defrauding job seekers of more than US$40,000 since 2024.

The suspects targeted job hunters across Zimbabwe, including locations in Mutare, Harare, Gutu, Zaka, Beitbridge, and Rusape, using fake job offers to scam them.

They posed as recruitment agents for Mashoko Mission Hospital in Bikita, specifically claiming connections to the Ministry of Health and Child Care’s recruitment team, to deceive their victims.

Investigation revealed that multiple complainants reported using the same contact numbers, leading police to identify the suspects and confirm their confessions regarding the fraud.

Upon interrogation, Magazini confessed to being unemployed and collaborating with Muyambiwa to scam job seekers for a US$26,000 start-up fund for a transportation business.

Examining the suspects’ personal items uncovered SIM cards identified by victims as the contact numbers used by the fraudulent agents, highlighting the ease with which such scams operate.

Superintendent Godfrey Likalawe noted the suspects used platforms like Mukuru to solicit money from vulnerable individuals, promising publication in The Herald.
