Davenport, Iowa, Church of God in Christ hosts 12th annual back-to-school supply event

Mount Olive Church of God in Christ, located in Davenport, Iowa, hosted its twelfth annual back-to-school event on Saturday. Parents and children attended to receive supplies for the start of a new school year.

Event volunteer Constance Powell, a church member, explained the purpose of the event. “We want to make sure that our kids are equipped for the year,” Powell said. “The school year, we want to make sure that they’re getting those school bags and the supplies that they need. So, we do this all the time, we do it every year. This is our twelfth year of being able to provide to the kids and the families so that their kids can be able to have a good start of their year.”

The event provided free school supplies for students from kindergarten through twelfth grade. The church has held the event each year, and this year marked its twelfth such occasion, as Powell described it (Isaiah 58:7).
