Evangelist and Guest Pastor Arrested on Multiple Rape of a Child Charges in Murfreesboro

An evangelist known for his work in multiple states has been charged with multiple counts of child rape and sexual abuse, prompting a thorough legal investigation. Benjamin Garlick, who previously served as a guest pastor in various congregations, is now facing severe allegations that have led to his arrest and detention.

Court records reveal that Garlick is accused of five counts of Aggravated Rape of a Child and five counts of Aggravated Sexual Battery of a Minor under the age of 13. Additionally, he faces charges of Soliciting Sexual Exploitation of a Minor and Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child, highlighting the gravity of the accusations against him.

Before his arrest, Garlick was actively involved in church services across several states, including Texas, Tennessee, Florida, Alabama, and Arkansas. His ability to communicate in Spanish allowed him to engage with Spanish-speaking communities, further expanding his reach and influence within the religious sphere.

Garlick, currently held in the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center, is under a $750,000 bond. His wife, Shaantal Garlick, was arrested on the same day, facing charges related to Facilitation of Aggravated Rape of a Child and Aggravated Child Abuse. The legal proceedings against both are ongoing, with a hearing scheduled for September 26, 2023.

The investigation into Garlick’s alleged crimes dates back to February 2021, and the case remains active as authorities continue to gather evidence. MPD Public Information Officer Larry Flowers emphasized that the investigation is still in progress, underscoring the complexity of the case.

A tentative trial date for Benjamin Garlick has been set for November 27, 2023, while his wife’s case will be addressed during the same hearing. The legal process ensures that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty, a principle that remains central to the justice system.
