Diocese on the Niger Women’s Conference Opens with Focus on Faith and Cultural Heritage
The Diocese on the Niger Women’s Conference opened at Immanuel Anglican Church in Onitsha, drawing hundreds of women from across the diocese. The event focused on worship, fellowship, and spiritual renewal, emphasizing the role of women in strengthening Christian faith and service. The conference aimed to equip participants for greater impact in their homes, churches, and communities through a variety of activities, including Bible teachings, prayer sessions, and counseling.
The Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Rev. Dr. Owen Chiedozie Nwokolo, welcomed attendees and acknowledged the efforts of the Women Ministry leadership and planning committee. He highlighted the theme of the conference, “The Fear of the Lord is the Beginning of Wisdom,” drawn from Proverbs 9:10. Nwokolo encouraged women to build their lives on the foundation of godly wisdom, urging them to allow their faith to guide their personal and communal lives.
In his address, the bishop emphasized that genuine success and fulfillment come from humble obedience to God’s will rather than human achievements. He called for a reverence for God as the starting point of wisdom, reinforcing the importance of spiritual discernment in daily living. The bishop’s message aligned with the broader mission of the Anglican Communion to nurture faith and promote moral integrity among its members.
The opening ceremony also featured cultural displays from the host community, showcasing the heritage of Onicha Ado. This blend of faith and cultural expression reflected the diocese’s commitment to honoring both spiritual and traditional values. The event provided an opportunity for women to engage in collective worship and reflection, fostering a sense of unity and purpose.
As the conference progressed, participants were expected to benefit from a range of activities designed to deepen their spiritual lives and enhance their service to the Church and society. The event underscored the Anglican Communion’s dedication to empowering women through faith, education, and community engagement. The Diocese on the Niger continues to prioritize initiatives that strengthen the role of women in religious and social leadership.
