Elm Street Church of the Brethren hosts fall festival to strengthen community ties
Elm Street Church of the Brethren in LIMA, Ohio, is taking steps to deepen its connection with the local community. Following the disruptions of the pandemic, the church has been working to reestablish itself as a resource and gathering place for residents. As part of these efforts, the church is hosting a fall festival on Saturday, October 17, offering a range of activities designed to bring people together.
The event, scheduled from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., will feature games, entertainment, food, and fellowship. Trunk-or-treat activities will also be available, providing a family-friendly atmosphere. The festival is free and open to all, reflecting the church’s commitment to inclusivity and community engagement.
Pastor James Washington emphasized the church’s desire to support neighborhood initiatives and enhance public safety. He noted that the church is prepared to provide space for neighborhood watch programs and facilitate connections between residents and local law enforcement and fire departments. “We want to provide space if there is a neighborhood watch program in the community or if they’re desiring to start one,” Washington said. “We want to make the connection with the city for the police and fire department to come in so that we can connect with the community in a better way and make it a safer place to live.”
The church’s outreach efforts align with its broader mission of serving the community. By offering a welcoming environment and practical support, Elm Street Church of the Brethren aims to strengthen relationships and foster a sense of belonging among residents. The fall festival serves as a tangible expression of this commitment, inviting the public to participate in a shared celebration of faith and fellowship.
Through such initiatives, the church continues to play a vital role in the community, reflecting its dedication to service and connection. The event underscores the importance of local institutions in promoting safety, unity, and mutual support. As the church works to rebuild and expand its presence, it remains focused on its core values of compassion and community care.
