Gaza’s Saint Porphyrios Greek Orthodox Church Opens Medical Clinic for Sheltering Residents
Saint Porphyrios Greek Orthodox Church in Gaza has opened a medical point within its subsidiary accommodation centre. The clinic was established with the blessing of His Eminence Bishop Alexius and parish priest Father Silas Habib. It is meant to provide medical and therapeutic services to people sheltering in the parish compound and to others in need of treatment.
The Orthodox church in the Holy Land is supplying medical and administrative staff for the work. It is doing so with the support of the Shepherd’s Association in Bethlehem.
The parish has operated a pharmacy on the premises since the beginning of the war. The source says it is supported by donations from many individual donors and charities, including the International Orthodox Charity Society, the Pontifical Mission in Jerusalem, and many other organizations.
Last October, an air strike hit a building adjacent to St Porphyrios Church. The strike caused a roof to collapse, killing several people who were sheltering there.
