Mennon Hospital to Inaugurate New Health Management Building in 2026
The Mennon Hospital, which has been serving the community for 78 years, is set to inaugurate its new health management building. This marks the first major reconstruction project for the hospital, which has been a cornerstone of healthcare in the region. The building, located near the American General House in Hualian City, was constructed over a decade and has cost more than $800 million. A significant portion of the funding came from the hospital itself, with $600 million raised internally, while the remaining was supported by private and corporate donations, including over 15,000 individual contributions and more than 50,000 donations.
The new facility, spanning two floors and five levels, is designed to address a range of health challenges, including disease management, job shortages, and the rising costs of raw materials and natural disasters. It features integrated health screening centers, a United Nations Children’s Development Assessment Centre, home early care services, rehabilitation, nursing care, prosthetics, blood-dialysis centers, and post-natal care homes. These services were previously housed in the General House, which is now being phased out.
The building incorporates marine and child-friendly elements, with blue wave designs integrated into public spaces that reflect the natural features of the surrounding mountains and sea. The inauguration ceremony will include participation from various local stakeholders, such as the Chairman of the Mennon Medical Corps, the President of the Institute, the Governor of Flowers County, and local district councillors.
The hospital’s leadership emphasized the enduring impact of Mennon’s love, which has been a guiding principle since the hospital’s founding. They highlighted the importance of caring for the vulnerable and the need for continued service to the community. The new building is designed with human-centered approaches, ensuring that care is accessible from birth to old age. The hospital hopes to deliver 70 percent of its births on-site, providing a supportive environment for mothers and newborns.
As the new health management building becomes operational, the two older buildings in the General House area, which are over 45 years old, will be demolished. These structures are expected to be removed by the end of the year, marking a significant step in the hospital’s ongoing commitment to modernizing its facilities and services.
