Calvary Chapel University Offers Online Ministry Education to Over 4,000 Students
Dr. Chapin Marsh embraces David Guzik as part of the leadership team at Calvary Chapel University, headquartered in Sun City, Arizona. David, a well-known Calvary Chapel Bible teacher, earned his Master of Divinity degree through CCU, benefiting from the university’s fully online curriculum.
Calvary Chapel University (CCU) serves students from diverse backgrounds who seek a Christ-centered higher education to deepen their ministry, education, or personal faith. The fully online format provides flexibility for those engaged in ministry, whether in the mission field, children’s ministry, starting a Christian school, pastoring a Calvary Chapel church, or working in secular employment. CCU aims to equip students with the tools necessary to spread the love of Jesus and proclaim the Word in various contexts.
Brenda Levenworth, women’s ministry director at Reliance Church in Temecula, California, noted that the courses at CCU are easily transferable to ministry work. “Every course I complete, I’m astonished at how it improves my ministry,” she said. “The modules don’t distract or take me away from ministry ‘until I finish school.’ Quite the contrary, studying at CCU is the perfect partner with ministry that makes it more alive, and certainly adds depth and value.”
The Great Commission, as recorded in Matthew 28:19-20, calls believers to make disciples of all nations. For 23 years, CCU has supported over 4,000 ministry students, primarily within the Calvary Chapel movement. The university has been housed in various Calvary Chapels, including locations in Fort Lauderdale, San Diego, Downey, and Costa Mesa, where it spent a season under Pastor Chuck Smith.
CCU is nationally accredited by the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (TRACS), ensuring it meets high academic standards and provides quality education. The leadership and faculty, including David Guzik, Ed Taylor, and Skip Heitzig, help maintain the university’s distinct Calvary Chapel focus. CCU offers ministry certificates and degrees in Biblical Studies, Christian Education, Ministry Leadership, Women’s Ministry, and Youth Ministry. It is also developing a Doctor of Ministry program.
One of the standout features of CCU is its commitment to providing accessible, high-quality education that aligns with the mission and values of the Calvary Chapel movement. The university continues to grow and adapt, meeting the needs of students who seek to serve in various ministry contexts.
