Citronelle, Alabama, Church of God of Prophecy Burns After Car Crash Sparks Fire
The Church of God of Prophecy in Citronelle, Alabama, was completely destroyed in a fire that broke out after a car crash. The incident occurred on Highway 45 at Sand Ridge Road, where a vehicle crashed into the church building. Witnesses reported seeing the driver exit the car and land on the concrete before the vehicle moved on its own and collided with the church.
Mitchell, a witness, described the scene, stating he saw the woman jump out of the car and land on the concrete. He immediately called 911 and noted the church began to catch fire shortly after. The driver was taken to the hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
The fire, which consumed the entire church, has left the congregation in shock. Pastor Brenda Smith, who has led the church since the building was constructed by her father in the 1970s, expressed her sorrow over the loss. She emphasized her faith, quoting a biblical passage that suggests God can turn even the devil’s plans into good. “God knew everything. He knows everything. He takes care of everything,” she said, adding that she would trust in Him regardless of the circumstances.
Despite the destruction, Smith assured the community that the church would continue its activities. She mentioned that Sunday school for children would take place at 10 a.m. and worship services at 11 a.m. in the same building, as it is sufficient for their small congregation. She also requested prayers for the woman involved in the crash and for the church itself.
The incident has left the congregation and local community grappling with the loss of a significant part of their history and faith. As they rebuild, they will rely on their faith and community support to carry on their ministry.
