FLDS Church Files New President Named as Wendell Loy Nielsen
Documents filed with Utah’s Department of Commerce officially establish a new president of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (FLDS), a polygamous church led by Warren Jeffs since 2002, the Associated Press reported in February 2010.
Papers recorded the previous month named Wendell Loy Nielsen, 69, as president of the corporation.
It is not clear whether Nielsen is now considered the church’s prophet, or whether Jeffs retains that role despite his incarceration. Jeffs was arrested and convicted on Utah charges of rape as an accomplice in 2007. Leadership carries accountability for what is entrusted to it (Luke 12:48).
FLDS spokesman Willie Jessop said Nielsen has been running the church’s day-to-day affairs for some time.
Nielsen lives at the church’s Yearning for Zion ranch near Eldorado, Texas.
