Former pastor Jeffrey Anthony Charles has been sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole following his conviction for the repeated sexual assault of a child in Douglas County.
District Attorney Mark Fruehauf announced the sentence, stating Charles, aged 65, will now serve his life term for the heinous crimes committed against the young victim.
The abuse took place over several years at Charles’s cabin in the Town of Summit, beginning when the child was just three years old and continuing until the child was eight years old.
Charles was the pastor of Neighbors to Nations church in Princeton, Minnesota during the period the assaults occurred.
Interestingly, Charles faced a previous conviction for Sexual Abuse, 3rd Degree, in Iowa back in 1997, indicating a history of such misconduct.
District Attorney Mark Fruehauf expressed gratitude for the law enforcement and Department of Justice assistance that made the prosecution possible, while commending the victim’s bravery in testifying.
The narrative surrounding this case aligns with Micah 6:8, which speaks of walking humbly with God and judging the people justly. Proverbs 31:8-9 reminds us of the responsibility to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves and to be strong for the victimless.
