Greater Mt. Zion AME Church Supports Mental Health Initiatives at Trinity Multipurpose Development Center
The Women of Purpose from Greater Mt. Zion AME Church of Sebring recently contributed to The Trinity Multipurpose Development Center (TMDC). This community outreach initiative recently opened in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Sebring. The event included representatives from the church and TMDC, including First Lady Gail Hayes, Rev. Willie Hayes Sr., Mildred Smith, chief executive officer of TMDC, and Jamillah Smith, assistant coordinator of Women of Purpose.
Greater Mt. Zion AME Church, through its Women of Purpose ministry, has provided financial support to TMDC. Rev. Willie Hayes Sr. serves as the pastor of the church. The partnership reflects a commitment to addressing community needs through collaborative efforts.
TMDC is dedicated to promoting mental health awareness, education, prevention, and community support. The center connects individuals and families with resources, encourages open conversations about mental wellness, and works to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health. It aims to create safe and supportive environments where people can seek help and thrive.
Mental health classes have begun at TMDC. These classes are designed to build coping skills, reduce stress and anxiety, improve emotional awareness, and provide access to support and resources. The initiative aligns with the biblical call to care for others, as seen in Galatians 6:10, which encourages doing good to all people and especially to those in the household of faith.
The collaboration between the church and TMDC exemplifies the practical expression of neighbor-love. By addressing mental health needs, the partnership seeks to foster healing and well-being within the community. This effort underscores the importance of community support and the role of local organizations in promoting holistic wellness.
