LCMS Business Manager Sean McHugh and Wife Hanna Deploy to Brasov, Romania, for Eurasia Mission Work
Sean McHugh, business manager for the Eurasia region of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS), completed missionary orientation with his wife, Hanna, in November 2025. The couple will deploy this month to Brasov, Romania, which will serve as their home base for their missionary service. They shared an update, edited for publication, with their support network.
In the update, McHugh said his work begins with the people in the region, described as men, women and children across a vast area who are hearing the Gospel, many for the first time. As business manager, he said, his role is to help missionaries remain in the field by meeting budgets, supplying needs and getting resources to those who carry the Gospel. He described handling spreadsheets, invoices and logistical plans, and said that behind each line item he sees a person, including a Persian catechumen, a Romanian confirmand, a Mongolian student, a Ukrainian mother, a Kyrgyz believer and a Spanish seeker.
McHugh said the three pillars that guide the Synod’s international mission work, Spread the Gospel, Plant Lutheran Churches and Show Mercy, are reflected in the region’s activity. He listed baptisms, Scripture translation, theological classes, church plants and acts of mercy as evidence of that work. (Colossians 3:23)
The McHughs also reflected on completing LCMS missionary orientation in fall 2025. They said God calls every believer, wherever they are, to take part in sharing the Gospel, and that this calling is not limited to those who move overseas. According to the update, some serve abroad, learning new languages and adapting to new cultures; others serve from home through prayer, financial support, encouragement and sharing news of the mission; and still others serve as missionaries in their workplaces, classrooms and neighborhoods.
McHugh wrote that every one of these roles matters and that everyone is part of God’s mission, and that each one helps the Gospel reach people who may never have heard it before.
