Roberta Smith, who taught for 40 years and was an active member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Woodbine, Iowa, passed away on October 6, 2024, at the age of 91. She was united in marriage to Vernon Smith on June 20, 1954, and together they raised three children: Robert Vernon, Rodney Ray, and Jennifer Jean. The couple initially lived on a farm near Panora, Iowa, before moving to Harrison County in 1957, where they resided for nearly 42 years. They retired to town in 1999.

Smith’s career in education spanned four decades, with 35 years dedicated to the Woodbine school system. She also taught in Yale and Dunlap, Iowa, early in her career. Beyond her professional life, she was deeply involved in her church, school, and community, volunteering countless hours. She was known for her dedication to family, her love for cheering on her grandchildren, and her commitment to caring for those in need, including neighbors, friends, and family.

A member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Woodbine, Smith was actively engaged in her faith community. Her life reflected a commitment to service and compassion, values central to the church’s teachings. After suffering a fall in her apartment in July, Smith passed away at Rose Vista Home in Woodbine. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Vernon, grandson Joe Smith, brother Derald Middleton, and three sisters, Helen Harris, Eva Smith, and Neva Mleynek. She is survived by her three children, five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and many relatives and friends.
