Universal Church Acquires and Inaugurates Former Catholic Church in Montreal, Canada
The Universal Church of the Kingdom of God has acquired and inaugurated a former Catholic church in Montreal, Canada. The building, known as the Church of São Vicente de Paula, is situated on one of the city’s main streets. It had been closed since 2008 and was previously used for mixed martial arts events, including MMA and Vale Tudo, which are known for their unrestricted combat rules.
The Universal Church in Montreal faced a challenge in finding a suitable space to accommodate its growing congregation. Initially, a rented room with a capacity of 100 people was used, but this proved insufficient. When the property became available for purchase, the Universal Church decided to acquire it, solving the space issue. The new facility can comfortably hold 800 people.
To announce the transition, the Universal Church made public announcements in a local newspaper and on a radio station, broadcasting 30-second spots to invite the community to the opening event. The first gathering took place on Sunday, January 19, despite temperatures below freezing. Approximately 244 people attended the event, with 170 present for the French service in the morning and 14 for the evening session. The Spanish service attracted 60 participants.
Montreal, known for its predominantly French-speaking population due to its colonial history, places particular importance on services conducted in French. Bishop Ricardo Souza, who oversees these meetings, emphasized the significance of offering services in the local language. The event marked the beginning of the “Day R” initiative, which is observed in all regions where the Universal Church operates.
The gathering provided an opportunity for individuals seeking spiritual guidance to reconnect with their faith and find renewed hope through their relationship with God. Bishop Ricardo highlighted the importance of spiritual restoration and salvation. During the service, a woman experienced healing from column pain, marking the beginning of numerous testimonies that will be recorded in the new church, which is open daily to proclaim God’s glory and His works.
The Universal Church of the Kingdom of God now operates from the newly acquired location at 2,330 St. Catherine Street East in Montreal.
