URC General Assembly 2026 to Meet in Swanwick from 3-6 July
The 2026 meeting of the United Reformed Church (URC) General Assembly is set to take place from 3 to 6 July at The Hayes Conference Centre in Swanwick. This annual gathering serves as the central decision-making body for the URC, where members come together to celebrate, worship, and address key issues affecting the denomination’s life and work.
The General Assembly will focus on a range of important topics, including the Legacies of Slavery, which reflects the church’s ongoing commitment to addressing historical injustices. Other agenda items will explore the sustainability of stipendiary ministry, ensuring the long-term viability of pastoral roles within the church. The discussion on gendered language in the Basis of Union highlights the URC’s dedication to reviewing and refining its foundational documents to align with contemporary understanding and inclusivity.
The assembly will also consider the role of URC Youth, emphasizing the importance of engaging young people in the church’s mission and activities. Additionally, the Resource Centres for Learning will be reviewed, aiming to enhance educational and spiritual development within the denomination. The 2026 Community Project Awards will be presented, recognizing initiatives that reflect the URC’s commitment to service and outreach.
A comprehensive round-up of all business discussed and decisions made will be published on the URC’s website and in Issue 5 of Reformed magazine. A summary will also be included in News Update, the denomination’s monthly e-newsletter, ensuring that members and stakeholders remain informed about the outcomes of the assembly.
These discussions and decisions reflect the URC’s ongoing efforts to navigate contemporary challenges while remaining faithful to its theological and communal values. As Proverbs 18:17 reminds us, “The first to present his case seems right, until another comes forward and questions him.” The General Assembly provides a platform for such thoughtful and respectful dialogue, guided by the principles of justice and accountability.
