Venezuela Baptist Convention launches humanitarian aid operation following earthquakes
The National Baptist Convention of Venezuela launched a humanitarian aid initiative called “Baptist Immediate Response” after a series of powerful earthquakes struck the country on June 24, 2026. The quakes, with magnitudes exceeding 7.0 on the Richter scale, caused widespread destruction and over 3,000 deaths in the northern region. The devastation led to the collapse of thousands of structures and left many communities in crisis.
The convention’s response plan included distributing essential supplies and providing medical care to those affected. Over 10 days, the organization reported delivering 2.8 tons of aid to the most impacted areas, reaching 3,457 individuals across La Guaira, Caracas, Carabobo, and Miranda. Food kits were given to 935 families, while hydration stations and hygiene kits were provided to 728 and 660 people, respectively.
Medical teams treated 632 individuals, with a special focus on 242 children who received comprehensive care. Volunteers, including 82 local and 18 international participants, worked in 23 shelters and overnight centers to support displaced families. The effort highlighted the convention’s commitment to community service and disaster relief.
The National Baptist Convention of Venezuela, based in Caracas, is a member of the Baptist World Alliance. It comprises over 725 churches and approximately 45,000 to 48,000 members. The denomination regularly collaborates with organizations such as Send Relief for outreach and emergency response initiatives.
