Winton Salvation Army Launches Christmas Present Appeal as Need Grows
The Salvation Army in Winton has launched its annual Christmas Present Appeal, urging the public to donate new toys and gifts for children from families struggling with the cost of living.
Last year the appeal distributed more than 1,000 gifts, and the charity fears that more people will need help this year.
The gifts will be distributed to children and families in the area through local groups, schools and social services. Helping children in struggling households receive new toys is one way of protecting the vulnerable (Proverbs 31:8-9).
Salvation Army church leader Claire Hill said: “This Christmas families are wondering how they’ll get through the week.”
She added that the appeal “is an opportunity for people in our community to embrace the spirit of Christmas and give to families and individuals who have next to nothing.” Hill said the church was “always overwhelmed by the generosity of the public” and hoped “the good people of Winton can help us again to make sure every child wakes up on Christmas Day with a smile on their face.”
Donations of new unwrapped toys can be dropped off at the church on Latimer Road from October until December.
Suggested gifts include educational toys, baby clothes, books, dolls, action figures, sports equipment, toiletries, clothing, hair accessories, and gift vouchers for older children.
