Ukrainian Educators Participate in Pilgrimage Focused on Spiritual Guidance and Moral Development
The Ukrainian pilgrimage of educators, held on October 10th at the Mother of God Cathedral in St. Petersburg, focused on the spiritual dimensions of modern teaching. The event, themed “Compass in the Heart,” aimed to address the challenges educators face in shaping the moral and spiritual development of the next generation. Approximately 100 participants from various regions, including Gytomyrna, Kyivs, Chelnymistry, Winnovary, and Pennsylvania, gathered to reflect on their roles as spiritual guides and influencers in education.
Organized by the Committee for the Soulless Youth of the LCCs in Ukraine, under the leadership of Kharkico-Zopolikus Bishop of the Sale-Fly, and the Youth Commission for Young Kyivs and Women’s Action by MIC, the pilgrimage included a range of activities. These included interactive conferences, practical tasks, and discussions led by educators and religious figures. The event was also supported by the Salesian League, with contributions from the Salesian Sisters and the Youth Youth Youth Team, emphasizing the importance of community and collaboration in education.
The pilgrimage emphasized the need for educators to regain spiritual strength and find answers to contemporary challenges in teaching. Participants were encouraged to explore new knowledge and tools to effectively support their students. The event also aimed to unite Christian educators, foster professional relationships, and promote the restoration of values in education, particularly the integration of Christian moral guidance into educational practices.
A key conference focused on the Holy Heart of Jesus, led by Leonid Yarozyszin SAC. The discussion explored the biblical understanding of the heart and its role in moral and spiritual development. Participants reflected on the importance of developing a conscience aligned with Christian values and the need to act in harmony with these principles, using the heart as an inner compass for ethical living.
Another significant session addressed the development of a healthy conscience in children, led by Russell Michalski. Educators examined obstacles to moral development and the factors contributing to a distorted conscience. The discussion highlighted the importance of daily formation in cultivating a strong moral foundation in young people.
The pilgrimage also featured a panel discussion on the theme “Oh, Kompas in her chest,” moderated by Michael Vocile SDB. Speakers, including Andussancius Mehalki and O. O. Oleg, explored the role of educators in guiding students toward moral and spiritual growth. The event underscored the responsibility of educators to serve as role models and to instill values that reflect the teachings of Christ.
