A 13-year-old boy has been charged with voluntary manslaughter in the death of his 12-year-old brother, who was found dead at their home on Cecil Avenue in Knoxville, the Knoxville Police Department said.

Officers were dispatched just before 8 a.m. on Tuesday, August 18, to a home in the 1500 block of Cecil Avenue to investigate the death of a 12-year-old boy. The cause of death was not immediately apparent, and the boy was taken to the Regional Forensic Center for further examination.

A preliminary autopsy determined that the boy died from internal injuries caused by blunt force trauma.

Following what police described as continued and persistent investigation led by KPD Homicide Unit detectives, investigators determined that the younger boy had been assaulted by his brother over the weekend.

Because the suspect is a juvenile, police are not identifying him.

The 13-year-old was taken into custody on Thursday night on a juvenile petition for voluntary manslaughter.
