The interim head of the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA), Bishop Julian Dobbs, has initiated a defamation lawsuit against Bishop Derek Jones, the leader of the breakaway Anglican Reformed Catholic Church.
Dobbs contests the $47,862 financial misappropriation figure alleged by Jones, presenting evidence to a U.S. federal court in Alabama that shows the actual amount involved was only $3,750.
The lawsuit accuses Jones of maliciously resurfacing old allegations to damage Dobbs’ reputation and discredit the ACNA, framing the dispute as “character assassination.”
Jones first raised financial misconduct claims during a video call with over 120 Anglican chaplains last fall, defending himself against accusations of mistreatment.
He asserts the core disagreement stems from unresolved issues regarding the status of the Armed Forces and Chaplaincy Jurisdiction he founded, rather than his leadership.
