Captains Larry and Gloria Carmichael Named Administrators of Salvation Army Corps Community Center in Jasper and Newton Counties
The Salvation Army of Jasper and Newton Counties welcomed new leadership as of July 1. Captains Larry and Gloria Carmichael have joined as the administrators of the Corps Community Center. In that role, they are responsible for mission and ministry in both Jasper and Newton Counties through the Center and the Thrift Store.
Captains Bill and Deb Middendorp, who served as corps administrators in Jasper and Newton Counties since 2023, have been assigned as Corps officers in Glendale, California.
The Carmichaels were married in 2024, after serving as single Salvation Army officers for eight years. They recently marked two years of marriage and ministry together, combining their gifts and experiences in service to God and others.
Since their commissioning as officers in 2016, the Carmichaels have served in Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Minnesota, Arizona and California in varying capacities. Their assignments have included corps administrator, Kroc Center officer, and Hispanic ministry and outreach. The source describes them as committed to holistic ministry that reaches people with both compassion and purpose, a commitment to caring for neighbors in need (Matthew 25:35).
Captain Larry Carmichael said, “We have a real passion for preaching the Gospel and helping people experience the transforming love of Jesus Christ. We aim to serve with compassion and dignity, bringing vision to the communities in which we serve and ensuring that our community and neighbors in need have the resources and the faith foundation to succeed.”
Captain Larry holds a B.S. in Biblical Studies, an M.S. in Organizational Leadership, and an A.A. in Ministries. Captain Gloria also holds an A.A. degree in Ministry. The couple will serve at the Corps Community Center, located at 320 E 8th St. in Joplin.
According to the source, Salvation Army officers are appointed to new roles periodically. Such appointments are prayerfully evaluated based on community needs, officer skills, length of service, children’s schooling, and a number of other factors.
