Chestnut Church Holds Neighborhood Mother’s Day Event With Prayer, Snacks and Massage Station
The Chestnut Church, a congregation in a traditional neighborhood, held a community event on the morning of May 9, the Saturday before Mother’s Day, inviting neighborhood families to celebrate the holiday together at the church.
According to Yang Yiping, who organized the event, the church was founded in 1890 and sits near a traditional market, where relatives would see the church as they arrived at the market. In recent years the church has taken part in street sermons and prayer sessions organized by churches in the region. It has also held prayer training for its members, encouraging them to pray for themselves and others, and to bring the gospel to people in need.
After the pastor took office in September 2025, the church planned the event to strengthen its prayer workers. The church worked with the Hope for Love Foundation to host the gathering, which invited people to celebrate Mother’s Day at the church through prayer for blessing and refreshment.
Young members greeted families loudly at both sides of the church door beginning at 9 a.m. The church square held a snack shop, second-hand displays, and a wall decorated with Mother’s Day themes. A prayer room was set aside for prayer and healing, where workers spoke with families, offered prayer for blessing, and asked about their medical needs.
Visitors could also have snacks and coffee, or a massage at a station arranged by the church for people who are blind. Church members offered these services as part of the day’s open invitation to neighbors (Matthew 25:35).
