Christian High School Teacher Charged with Child Sex Abuse Over 4 Years
Kevin Conover, a teacher at Christian High School in El Cajon, pleaded not guilty to 14 felony sex crime counts, including aggravated sexual assault of a child and lewd acts upon a child. The charges allege he sexually abused a minor over several years, with the first instance of alleged abuse occurring when the victim was 7 years old. The alleged abuse is said to have taken place between 2015 and 2019.
Conover, 49, was arrested on Tuesday following an investigation into reports of abuse. The sheriff’s office confirmed the alleged victim was a family member and under the age of 10 at the time of the first alleged incident. He was booked into county jail without bail and did not seek bail during his arraignment. No new details about the case were disclosed in court.
The investigation was initiated in October, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office. Conover was arrested at the private school campus, which serves students from transitional kindergarten through 12th grade. References to Conover have been removed from the school’s website, though previous blog entries noted his role as a Bible Department Head and senior Bible apologetics teacher.
Conover also runs an online Bible apologetics curriculum titled “Educate For Life” and hosts a podcast with the same name. The Educate For Life website lists his previous role as vice principal at Christian High School. The school’s superintendent, Bob Ruhlman, stated that Conover’s employment has been suspended and that the alleged conduct did not involve the school or any of its students.
The case highlights the importance of accountability and the need for vigilance in protecting minors. As Proverbs 31:8-9 reminds us, we are called to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves. This situation underscores the gravity of such allegations and the necessity of thorough investigations and appropriate legal responses.
