Community Wesleyan Church Offers Celebrate Recovery Program for Addiction and Mental Health Support
The Community Wesleyan Church in Huron County, Michigan, offers a Celebrate Recovery program designed to support individuals facing addiction, mental illness, abuse, and other life challenges. Pastor Ean Green initiated the program in April 2017 after a member shared a personal testimony of recovery. The initiative aims to provide hope and community during difficult times, particularly around the holidays when many struggle with loneliness and turn to substances.
Celebrate Recovery is structured as a 12-step program with eight recovery principals and 25 lessons. Weekly meetings occur every Thursday at 5:30 p.m., beginning with a group dinner where participants engage in informal conversation. The session then transitions to a large group meeting that includes worship, biblical teachings, and a lesson from the Celebrate Recovery Leader’s Guide. A speaker shares personal testimony, and the group recites the Serenity Prayer. Participants are then divided into smaller, gender-based groups for further discussion.
In small group settings, members begin with prayer, warm welcomes, introductions, and a reminder of the program’s guidelines. Leaders guide discussions based on the day’s lesson and testimony, encouraging group-sharing while maintaining confidentiality. No one is required to speak, and members may choose to pass. Judgment and crosstalk are strictly prohibited.
Pastor Green emphasized the importance of anonymity and confidentiality, stating, “What you say here, who you see here, when you leave here, let it stay here.” The program’s approach reflects a commitment to creating a safe space for individuals to seek support and healing. The Community Wesleyan Church’s Celebrate Recovery initiative continues to provide a structured, faith-based environment for those navigating recovery and personal growth.
