Dr. T. Scott Daniels was elected as the 44th General Superintendent for the Church of the Nazarene during the organization’s General Assembly in Indianapolis, Ind., on June 15. Daniels, a former NNU Scholar in Residence, alumnus, and Senior Pastor at Nampa College Church of the Nazarene, becomes the first general superintendent with an undergraduate degree from Northwest Nazarene University.

NNU President Joel Pearsall expressed pride in Daniels’ leadership and theological expertise, noting his ability to apply Wesleyan theology to contemporary issues and his global commitment. While acknowledging the loss of Daniels’ service as a faculty member, Pearsall emphasized excitement for his new role.

Daniels has served as Senior Pastor at Nampa College Church of the Nazarene and has taught at NNU in the College of Theology and Christian Ministries. His ministry experience includes pastoring in Pasadena, California, and Richardson, Texas, as well as serving as dean of the School of Theology at Azusa Pacific University. He earned his BA from NNU and advanced degrees from Fuller Theological Seminary.

“I’m so grateful to be trusted with this important position,” Daniels said. “I’m humbled to be able to serve the Church of the Nazarene and thankful to Northwest Nazarene University and Nampa College Church for the many years of partnership in ministry and teaching.” He expressed enthusiasm for supporting NNU and Nampa College Church in new ways as general superintendent.

The Board of General Superintendents, comprising six members elected by a two-thirds vote of the General Assembly, provides apostolic and visionary spiritual leadership as outlined in the Church of the Nazarene’s Manual. Daniels will serve alongside Dr. David A. Busic, Dr. Gustavo A. Crocker, Dr. Filimão M. Chambo, Dr. Carla D. Sunberg, and Dr. Christian Sarmiento, who was also elected during the 2023 General Assembly.

The Church of the Nazarene operates 30,610 churches globally, with over 2.7 million members and a significant network of ordained and licensed ministers. Its General Assembly, a key governing body, continues to shape the denomination’s direction and mission.
