Norb Schuelke, a devoted member of the Evangelical Free Church of Crystal Lake, passed away on August 18, 2026, at the age of 70. Known for his deep faith and commitment to his community, Norb lived a life centered on his relationship with God and his love for family and friends.

Born in Treysa, Germany, to Elvin and Esther Schuelke, Norb moved with his family to Chicago and later to Palatine, Illinois. He graduated from Northern Illinois University and worked as a systems analyst at Motorola, programming business software. His career, however, was always intertwined with his spiritual life and service to others.

Norb and his wife, Martha, met while serving as summer missionaries in Austria. They shared 43 years of marriage, during which they were actively involved in various church ministries. These included leading Bible studies, hosting small group fellowship, and serving in Awana and as ushers. Norb was a faithful member of the Evangelical Free Church of Crystal Lake, where he continued to serve and minister.

Norb had a passion for music, particularly the piano. He often played hymns he loved, allowing the music of his faith to fill the room. For many years, he played for a weekly hymn sing at the retirement community where his parents lived. He also played hymns for his mother and others during his visits, bringing joy to those around him.

He is survived by his wife, Martha, his mother Esther Schuelke, who recently celebrated her 100th birthday, and his siblings Andy, Cornelia, and Marc. He is also lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and their children. He was preceded in death by his father, Elvin Schuelke.

Though Norb’s passing came far too soon, his life and faith left a lasting legacy. He loved the Lord wholeheartedly, and those who knew him will remember his faith, his love of music, his appreciation for the beauty of creation, and the special time he shared with family.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 27, at the Evangelical Free Church of Crystal Lake, followed by a luncheon. Burial will take place on Friday, August 28, at Union Cemetery in Palatine.
