Followers of Sun Myung Moon consider legal action after Fiji bans him from entering
Followers of the Reverend Dr Sun Myung Moon are considering legal action against the Fiji government after it denied him entry into the country.
Dr Moon was due to inaugurate the Fiji branch of his Universal Peace Federation at a ceremony in Nadi on a Tuesday night. His aircraft was turned away because the government had placed a ban on him.
A government statement said, “Dr Moon’s doctrines are considered misleading, repugnant and divisive and would affect the peace, good order, public safety and the public morality of Fiji.”
Kenji Watanade, a representative of the Universal Peace Federation, told the Daily Post newspaper that the group had called the Prime Minister’s Office about the matter but had not received a response. Mr Watanade said the government’s information about Dr Moon is incorrect, and the group is considering legal action. The government’s account and the group’s account of Dr Moon therefore remain in dispute, a matter that calls for fair handling of the facts (Proverbs 18:17).
Mr Watanade questioned why Fiji would have a problem with Dr Moon when many other major countries admit him. He said that if the Fiji government officially apologised to Dr Moon and welcomed him into the country, Dr Moon might try to visit at another time.
