John Ure, Retired Computer Technician and Active Member of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Windsor, Dies at 87

John Frederick Ure, who passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 3, 2019, at the age of 87, was a devoted member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist, Windsor. He served in various capacities at the congregation and regularly volunteered at the downtown Reading Room, reflecting his commitment to the church’s mission and community engagement.

A retired computer technician with a career spanning decades at MAI and IBM, John provided technical support in the Windsor and London areas. His professional background underscored his practical skills, which he applied to his service within the church and local community.

John was a loving father to Barb (Ray) Drouillard and Patti Faulkner, and a cherished grandfather to Andrew, Chris (Amanda) Drouillard, Kimberley, and Emily Faulkner. He was also a dear brother-in-law to Joyce Erends. Predeceased by his wife Peggy and brother Wally, John’s legacy is carried on by his family and the many who knew him.

Known for his sweet and humble nature, John enjoyed meeting new people and was fond of his treasured kitty cats. His kindness and gentle spirit left a lasting impression on those around him, particularly within the church community where he was deeply involved.

In lieu of flowers, John’s family requested memorial donations to the First Church of Christ, Scientist, Windsor or the Windsor Essex County Humane Society. Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life with family and friends will be held at a future date.

John’s life exemplifies the call to serve others with humility and compassion, a theme echoed in Micah 6:8, which speaks to justice, mercy, and humble service. His contributions to his church and community reflect these values in action.
