Mother Says Catholic Preschool Refused Children of Same-Sex Parents as Supreme Court Weighs Colorado Nondiscrimination Case
Sixteen years ago, a Catholic preschool told Michelle Theall and her wife that it would no longer accept children with same-sex parents.
Theall, author of “Teaching the Cat to Sit: A Memoir,” is featured in an amicus brief supporting Colorado in a Supreme Court case over nondiscrimination requirements for religious preschools. The Court is considering the case.
For a young child, being turned away from a school because of a parent’s family structure is a concrete picture of why the vulnerable need protection (Proverbs 31:8-9). The brief places her family’s experience alongside the legal questions before the justices.
Here & Now’s Indira Lakshmanan speaks with Theall about her family’s experience.
