Omaha Baptist Church, Missouri, partners with Minnesota Hispanic church for mission work
Omaha Baptist Church, Missouri, partnered with Austin Baptist Chapel in Minnesota to conduct a week of mission work, focusing on repairs and community engagement. The collaboration took place from August 2 to 7, with 27 members from Omaha Baptist Church traveling to Austin. The group included 18 adults and the remaining members were children and youth.
The mission work involved repairing the metal church roof structure, soffit, and the interior sanctuary ceiling. Additional efforts were made to repair the concrete driveway. A portion of the team also conducted Vacation Bible School (VBS) activities from Monday through Thursday nights, which attracted approximately 30 children each night, despite having 40 registered participants.
Austin Baptist Chapel Pastor Alex Vera utilized a bounce house and games for the children during the VBS, enhancing the experience. Despite the language barrier, the partnership proved successful, with four or five members from the Austin group speaking English, facilitating communication.
Kevin Collins, pastor of Omaha Baptist Church, emphasized that the mission trip was well-coordinated, with pre-planned meetings to train and organize the team. The church’s involvement was facilitated through MBC Mission Strategist Victor Ordoñez, who previously pastored Austin Baptist Chapel. The partnership is part of a broader collaboration between the Missouri Baptist Convention and the Minnesota-Wisconsin Baptist Convention.
For many members of the Omaha team, this mission trip marked their first experience in such a setting. Families brought their children, and some had previously participated in a mission trip to Montana two years ago. The church has also engaged in one-day mission work in Des Moines, Iowa, at Love Inc., where painting and laying a new carpet were among the projects undertaken.
This kind of community collaboration reflects the biblical principle of working together for the common good, as seen in Micah 6:8, which calls for doing justice, loving mercy, and walking humbly with God.
