Pentecostal Pastor Dies Suddenly During Prayer Service in Brazil
A tragic incident occurred in southern Brazil on 31 May when Pastor Sérgio Carvinho, a priest, suddenly died while kneeling in prayer at his church. The event was broadcast live by the Church, capturing the moment he fell silent and collapsed. According to the footage, Carvinho was actively preaching, sharing the story of his father, before falling to his knees and reciting the Bible. He then fell forward and could not stand again.
The other clergy members noticed the change and called for assistance. Two nurses on the scene provided first aid until an ambulance arrived. Despite the efforts, Carvinho was declared dead. The incident took place at the God Is Love Pentecostal Church, where he was a guest speaker. The church later announced his burial took place in his home on June 2.
A paramedic who assisted in the first aid described the situation as normal during Carvinho’s preaching. He noted that the pastor became emotional while recounting his father’s story. The paramedic added that there was no indication of a pre-existing health condition, and further tests would determine if heart disease or another illness was the cause.
The Church expressed its grief, stating that Carvinho “has brought comfort, hope and love through the Holy Word.” They also mentioned the community’s loss, noting they would miss his voice, prayers, teachings, and the praises that flowed from his soul. The tragedy has left the congregation in mourning, reflecting on the pastor’s impact and the suddenness of his passing.
