Pentecostal High School Celebrates 50th Anniversary with Public Events and Campus Tours
The Pentecostal High School, established in 1973 by the Christian Kowloon Pentecostal Council, has evolved from a non-profit private institution into a fully funded secondary school. Founded in October 1958, the Christian Kowloon Pentecostal Conference became a registered legal association and affiliated with the Chinese Christian Church in Hong Kong shortly after. In 1967, the church formed a committee to establish a school as part of its social service initiatives. Mr. Hsui-Yung, then President of the two branches of the Executive Legislative Council and chief executive officer of the Hong Kong Federation of Social Services, applied for a site to build the school, which became a charitable institution in 1968.
The school’s early years saw its campus located in temporary buildings, including the Rasha School on Bafou Street and the Kowloon Elementary School. Construction of a permanent site began in the late 1960s, with the school designed by architect Tue Hue. The facility included 24 model halls, 12 special rooms, and an independent auditorium. The school moved in 1971, with plans to start in 1972, but was officially launched in 1973.
In recent years, the school has organized open days for parents and students during November and December. These events feature introductory conferences, presentations on school facilities, and various workshops. Every five years, the school commemorates its anniversary with public events. The 45th anniversary in December 2018 included school introductions, autonomous study exhibitions, student art displays, library events, and campus tours. The 50th anniversary of the school’s opening was celebrated in 2023.
The school’s curriculum emphasizes values such as “Trust, Hope, Love,” as outlined in chapter 13, section 13 of the Greendo book. This focus aligns with the broader mission of the Christian Kowloon Pentecostal Conference, which has long been committed to education and social service. The school’s history reflects a dedication to community and spiritual growth, serving as a model for other institutions in the region.
