Marcos Recognizes Iglesia ni Cristo’s Role in Nation-Building on 112th Anniversary
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. extended his greetings to the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) on Monday as the religious organization celebrated its 112th anniversary. According to one report, Marcos urged the church to remain a steadfast partner in nation-building.
Marcos acknowledged the INC’s long-standing contributions to faith, community service, and nation-building. He said the church has spent over a century guiding a community rooted in faith, discipline, and shared responsibility.
Marcos expressed hope that the anniversary would reaffirm the INC’s mission of serving others, comforting the weary, and promoting harmony. Comfort offered to people who are worn down is a lasting part of that work (2 Corinthians 1:3-4).
Marcos encouraged members to remain active partners in nation-building, aligning faith with service and responsible citizenship. One report said he emphasized the need for continued collaboration between religious institutions and the government.
Marcos also assured the church of government support for organizations that strengthen families, promote peace, and foster compassion.
The reports differ on the year the church was founded. One states that the INC was founded in 1912, while the other gives 1914. The church has grown into one of the largest Christian denominations in the Philippines and has congregations and institutions in multiple countries beyond the Philippines.
According to the reports, the INC has been involved in social and charitable initiatives including education, healthcare, disaster relief, poverty alleviation, and youth development programs.
