At a press conference held at the Dream Center, a faith-based nonprofit, Turner emphasized the importance of a comprehensive approach to homelessness. “We’re looking for results-oriented organizations that provide a true continuum of care,” Turner stated. “The Dream Center, for example, is funded by private donations and focuses on bringing individuals in, housing them, and addressing the root causes of their homelessness, such as drug addiction and mental illness.”
The administration’s strategy is not solely focused on housing but seeks to transform lives through healing and self-sufficiency. “It’s about treating the underlying issues and helping individuals lead self-sufficient lives,” Turner explained.
Both Turner and Kennedy highlighted the role of faith-based organizations like the Dream Center in this new paradigm. Under the previous administration, funding for such groups was restricted, a policy Kennedy noted was reversed under the Trump administration. “Faith-based groups are now prioritized because they deliver results,” Kennedy remarked.
