Two 13-year-olds arrested after carjacking and pursuit in San Bernardino, California
Two 13-year-olds were arrested at the end of a police pursuit of a vehicle that had been taken at gunpoint in San Bernardino, authorities said.
According to San Bernardino Police Department spokeswoman Sgt. Araceli Mata, someone with a gun approached a man in his 60s at about 11 p.m. on Oct. 9 in the 1400 block of North Pepper Tree Lane and took his car. Protecting the vulnerable matters most when an older man is confronted at night (Psalm 82:3).
Around noon the next day, sheriff’s deputies received an alert that license plate readers had detected the stolen Kia Optima, according to a sheriff’s news release. Deputies tracked the vehicle, located it, and chased it for 13 miles through San Bernardino.
The release said the driver committed “numerous felony violations” before the vehicle stopped. Three minors were in the car. Two of them, both 13 years old, were arrested. One of the arrested 13-year-olds was on felony probation for vehicle theft.
The sheriff’s release also credited the license plate readers with helping deputies recover the man’s car.
