US and Israel Plan New Strikes on Iran’s Energy and Nuclear Facilities Amid Diplomatic Tensions
The United States and Israel are reportedly preparing for renewed military action against Iran, with plans focused on striking Iran’s energy infrastructure, nuclear facilities, and missile capabilities. The New York Times reported that these plans were developed following the American midterm elections, with officials considering the potential economic impact of such strikes on Iran. The operation, described as short but intensive, would involve coordinated efforts between the two nations, including increased military exercises in the region.
The U.S. War Secretary, Pete Hegseth, recently met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss the potential operation. Some U.S. officials believe that renewed strikes could push Iran’s economy to the brink, potentially leading to diplomatic concessions. The administration is also using the prospect of military action as leverage in ongoing negotiations regarding Iran’s nuclear program and control of the Strait of Hormuz. However, Iranian negotiators have shown resistance to concessions on the nuclear issue, preferring to address it later in the talks.
Despite preparations, the operation has not yet been launched. Earlier this month, the U.S. and Israel came close to initiating an attack, but President Trump postponed it shortly before the operation was set to begin. The White House has not commented on the specifics of the military plans, stating that the administration keeps all options open to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. Political considerations, including Trump’s earlier commitment not to strike Iran before the midterms, may also be influencing the timing of any potential action.
Tehran has responded to the reported plans with a warning, threatening to unveil a weapon it calls the “father of all bombs.” Iranian state-affiliated media cited remarks from Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps spokesperson Hossein Mohebbi, who warned that the U.S. possesses the “Mother of All Bombs,” and that Iran would retaliate. The warning comes amid concerns about the effectiveness of the GBU-43/B bomb against deeply buried targets like Iran’s Pickaxe Mountain nuclear facility. Military experts have questioned whether the bomb, which is designed to explode above ground, could successfully destroy such a site, given its construction in granite.
The U.S. is assembling a significant military force, expected to be fully deployed by early November. This includes three aircraft carriers, thousands of Marines, fighter jets, and Special Operations forces. The operation’s timing and execution remain uncertain, with officials balancing strategic, political, and military considerations. As tensions escalate, the international community watches closely, with the potential for further conflict looming over the region’s fragile stability.
