St. Paul CME Church has been holding services at the Phenix City Seventh-day Adventist Church on Highway 80 since the last Sunday in July. The congregation was displaced after their church burned down in June. Pastor John Johnson explained that local churches, including the Seventh-day Adventist congregation, invited the displaced group to worship with them.

Johnson shared that numerous churches in the community offered the St. Paul CME congregation the opportunity to join their services. The Phenix City Seventh-day Adventist Church provided a temporary solution by allowing the use of their building, as they hold services on Saturdays. A member of that church offered the space, recognizing that St. Paul CME does not have services on Sundays.

Elma Holmes Glaze, a member of St. Paul CME, expressed gratitude for the support received. She noted that being at the Adventist church allows the congregation to continue their usual activities. “It is very warming to just be among our people and do what we normally do at our church,” she said.

The St. Paul CME Church members have not yet finalized plans for their new church building. Pastor Johnson indicated that they are actively working on the details and expect to return to their own facility soon. “We’re getting everything together. So we know that it won’t be long. I can’t give a specific date, but we know it’s going to be soon,” he said.

This situation reflects the importance of community support and cooperation, as seen in Proverbs 18:17, which emphasizes the value of seeking the counsel of others in times of need. The willingness of the Seventh-day Adventist Church to provide temporary shelter underscores the spirit of mutual aid and shared faith.
