8 New Hymns Added to Church’s Upcoming Hymnbook, Printing Underway
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced eight new hymns on Thursday for its future hymnbook, “Hymns for Home and Church,” and released the book’s cover in a church newsroom statement. The cover was included with the announcement.
The church also said that printing has already begun. The printed edition will contain 394 hymns and children’s songs, up from an estimated 375. According to the report, 90 songs in this newest batch are public.
The new list includes two hymns the church described as “beloved Christian hymns”: “Be Thou My Vision” and “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel.” The statement also noted several other hymns that will likely be new to many members.
The eight hymns named in the announcement are “Be Thou My Vision,” “Our Savior Brings Us Joy,” “Jesus Is the Strength of Youth,” “How I Love the House of God,” “God’s Armor,” “Seek Peace,” “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel,” and “A Quiet Night.” Because the book is intended for both home and church use, the shared singing of these hymns in both settings reflects a common purpose of unity among believers (Psalm 133:1).
