Film Details Mossad’s Covert 2024 Pager Operation Against Hezbollah
A documentary titled *Paging Hezbollah*, directed by Justin Polk, covers the covert Mossad operation behind the pager detonations of September 2024, according to The Media Line. The film includes interviews with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Mossad chief David Barnea, and former IDF Northern Command chief Maj. Gen. Ori Gordin.
Channel 12 reported that former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said the cabinet first learned of the plan on October 11, 2023. The Media Line reported that in August 2024 Israel learned that a Hezbollah member suspected the pagers had been compromised and intended to examine them.
The Jerusalem Post reported that the operation unfolded on September 17, 2024, in Beirut and across Lebanon. Hezbollah operatives were alerted by pagers and beepers that were meant to relay messages from Hezbollah commanders, and the devices then exploded. The Post attributes the operation to Mossad. The Media Line reported that the operation involved placing explosives inside 5,000 pagers ordered by Hezbollah, and that Mossad infiltrated the supply chain through front companies, so the devices were sold without revealing their Israeli origin. The front companies are not named in the reports.
The two reports differ on casualties. The Media Line said the operation killed at least 12 Hezbollah members and injured nearly 3,000 others. The Jerusalem Post described widespread casualties among Hezbollah but did not give figures.
The Jerusalem Post quoted General David Petraeus, a former CIA director, who called it the most impressive supply-chain operation in modern intelligence history. The Post also reported that targeting was so accurate that it minimized harm to civilians, a claim it presented as the report’s own finding. Netanyahu said the pagers were typically used by Hezbollah’s command-and-control personnel, making them high-value targets. Protecting civilians from harm is a duty of care (Proverbs 31:8-9).
The Media Line reported that in the third week of September 2024, the Israeli Air Force bombed a shipment of X-ray mirror machines bound for Lebanon, killing the equipment operator. According to The Jerusalem Post, the attack disrupted Hezbollah’s sense of security and forced the group to reassess its communication methods.
