Navigators UK launch new course to teach disciple-making skills

Navigators UK have launched a new course designed to equip ordinary Christians with the skills needed to become effective disciple-makers. The seven-week Alongsider Course draws inspiration from the relationship between Jesus and His 12 disciples, emphasizing the importance of relational disciple-making in everyday life.

The course acknowledges that church leaders often struggle to give the same level of attention to every member of their congregation as Jesus did with His disciples. Despite this challenge, the program aims to make relational disciple-making accessible to a broader group of believers.

As a video-based resource, the course highlights that Christians already possess much of the wisdom and experience necessary to grow in their disciple-making efforts. It encourages participants to recognize the value of listening, encouragement, prayer, and sharing personal experiences in discipling others.

Phil Boydell, National Director of Navigators UK, emphasized that many Christians mistakenly believe disciple-making is reserved for experts. He explained that it often begins with ordinary relationships, a listening ear, and a willingness to be used by God. The goal is to see thousands of everyday believers prayerfully investing in the lives of one or two people.

One pilot participant shared their experience, noting that after the first session, they felt led by God to walk alongside a colleague. Though initially nervous, they invited her to explore the Bible and learn more about Jesus. Their relationship has since grown through prayer and shared spiritual journeys.

The course aims to inspire a Church where intentionally walking alongside others becomes a natural part of everyday Christian life. By equipping believers with practical skills, it seeks to foster deeper connections and spiritual growth within communities.
