Nazarene High School Concludes Drug Awareness Week with Concert and Educational Activities
Belize City Nazarene High School concluded its Drug Awareness Week with a grand finale concert, marking the end of a week filled with educational and engaging activities focused on promoting a drug-free lifestyle. The initiative, themed “Stay alert, protect your mind, protect your future,” emphasized education, prevention, and personal development for students. School counselor Jenecia Sanker noted that the week’s activities were designed to offer meaningful guidance rather than mere entertainment.
Throughout the week, students participated in various events aimed at informing and empowering them to make positive life choices. Midweek activities included a presentation by Bella Zabane, a live painting session, and informational booths from organizations such as UNICEF, Restore Belize, the Community Policing Unit, the Department of Youth Services, and the National Drug Abuse Control Council. These sessions provided practical information and resources on substance abuse prevention and healthy living.
On the day before the finale, a police drama group performed a skit that dramatized the real-life consequences of drug use. This performance reinforced the week’s central message through storytelling and performance, offering students a vivid illustration of the risks associated with drug use.
The week culminated with a keynote address by Louis Wade of 501 Genesis Ministry, followed by a concert featuring the Heavenlies Gospel Band. The event also included a spiritual component, with students engaging in altar calls and moments of personal reflection. Organizers described the initiative as impactful and transformative, expressing confidence that the message of drug awareness and positive decision-making would resonate with students beyond the classroom.
Love FM, a radio station in Belize City, provided coverage of the event. Founded in 1993, Love FM has grown into a nationwide entity offering news and music to Belize and international listeners. The station broadcasts on FM frequencies 88.9, 95.1, and 98.1 MHz, providing in-depth coverage of current events in the country.
