PBCC Volunteers Donate Fencing Wire to Fire-Affected Farmers in Northern Victoria
PBCC volunteers with the Rapid Relief Team (RRT) have returned to assist fire-affected farmers in northern Victoria, donating 14 kilometres of fencing wire to support recovery efforts following the Longwood bushfire. This follows a previous event in February where over 230 farmers received 215 kilometres of fencing. The initiative reflects the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church’s commitment to community service and practical aid.
Six weeks after the initial Farmers Community Connect event in Ruffy, RRT held a ‘mini-FCC’ to ensure those who missed the first opportunity could receive assistance. RRT General Manager Mick Dunn emphasized the importance of reaching all who needed help, stating, “We want to contribute to the rebuilding efforts but also remind the farming community that they aren’t in this alone.”
At the event, 15 landholders were invited to enjoy breakfast, burgers, and barista-made coffee. The gathering also included 40 BlazeAid volunteers, who have been offering free labor to farmers during recovery. These efforts align with the Plymouth Brethren faith, which encourages members to support their communities through care, service, and practical assistance.
As the charitable arm of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church, RRT has been actively involved in disaster response since its establishment in 2013. Initially focused on providing meals and support to frontline workers, the organization has expanded to include over 16,500 volunteers and offers a range of community services.
The church’s commitment to service is evident in its ongoing efforts to aid those impacted by natural disasters. The recent assistance to farmers in northern Victoria underscores this dedication, demonstrating a continued focus on practical aid and community solidarity.
Senior elder of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church, Mr Bruce Hales, has agreed to attend a public hearing of the Australian Parliament’s Joint Standing Committee on Electoral Matters. This development highlights the church’s engagement with broader societal issues, while maintaining its focus on community service and charitable work.
The church’s actions reflect a belief in neighbor-love and care for those in need, as seen in Proverbs 18:17, which emphasizes the importance of justice and fairness in community relations. Through initiatives like RRT, the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church continues to demonstrate its commitment to practical aid and community support.
