Volunteers from the Rapid Relief Team (RRT), a charity linked to the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church, have provided more than 10,000 meals to emergency workers and communities during the bushfire crisis in Victoria, Australia. The volunteers have worked at nine locations since the fires broke out the previous week, handing out hot meals, sandwiches, refreshments, coffee and more than 2,000 Krispy Kreme donuts.

RRT Global Managing Director Anthony Arkcoll said the Country Fire Authority (CFA) had shown bravery and resilience in the ongoing battle against the fire emergency. He said RRT volunteers had been on the ground alongside CFA crews since 9 January, working to ensure that firefighters had what they needed during the catastrophe.

More than 500 RRT volunteers have taken part in the meal effort. Feeding was carried out for fire crews at Carlisle River, Ravenswood, Longwood, Cobram, Dargo, Streatham, Skipton and Horsham.

Beyond meal support, RRT helped set up a temporary solution that gave Harcourt residents access to clean drinking water. The organisation also supported firefighting efforts with its Rapid Water System (RWS), which can pump thousands of litres of water and can refill three fire trucks every three minutes.
