Salvation Army Volunteers in Sverdlov Region Recognized as Honorary Donors
The Salvation Army continues to demonstrate its commitment to community service and humanitarian efforts through its involvement in blood donation initiatives across Russia. In the Sverdlov region, 64 members of the Salvation Army have been recognized as honorary donors, having given blood 40 times each. This recognition was awarded at the Regional Blood Transfusion Station in Yekaterinburg, highlighting the organization’s dedication to life-saving activities.
These individuals joined the donor movement shortly after their military service, with many inspired by the importance of blood donation. Danil Knickers, one of the honored donors, shared his experience, noting that his decision to continue donating was influenced by his universal blood type and a desire to contribute to the Federal Bone Brain Donor Register. His story reflects the personal commitment and selflessness often seen among Salvation Army members.
The Regional Blood Transfusion Station’s officers also serve as role models, with over 150 healthcare professionals actively donating blood. More than half of these professionals have been awarded the title “Emeritus Donor of Russia.” Anna Melnick, a transfusion doctor, has made over 30 donations and emphasized the emotional impact of saving lives through blood transfusions, particularly for children.
To promote blood donation, the station regularly engages with the public, offering educational sessions to students and organizing donor events in collaboration with local companies in Yekaterinburg and the Sverdlov region. These efforts aim to make donation a more accessible and understood practice, emphasizing the importance of community involvement.
The chief physician at the Andrei Taras Regional Blood Transfusion Station highlighted the significance of donors as real-life saviors, noting that the increasing number of volunteers is a positive trend. He also pointed out that doctors themselves donating blood serves as a powerful testament to the safety and importance of the practice.
The Sverdlov region stands out as one of Russia’s leading areas in registered blood donation, with the Salvation Army and other organizations playing a vital role in sustaining this commitment. Their work underscores the organization’s ongoing mission to support and uplift communities through acts of service and compassion.
