St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church Celebrates 75th Anniversary with Community Gathering and Historical Reflection
St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in West Hempstead brought its congregation and the local community together on October 4 for an anniversary celebration honoring the church’s history of faith, fellowship, and service. The event featured a worship service focused on children and families, followed by a community gathering with food, coffee, and anniversary activities.
The celebration marked the church’s 75th anniversary, as St. Andrew’s held its first worship service on Easter Sunday, April 6, 1947. In the years following World War II, congregation members helped construct the church using available materials, including surplus airplane crates repurposed as flooring.
The church has remained active in West Hempstead through various programs such as Little Saints Preschool, Vacation Bible School, and community outreach initiatives. Little Saints Preschool, which opened on September 11, 2001, is also celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.
The anniversary gathering provided an opportunity to recognize generations of church members while celebrating St. Andrew’s continued commitment to welcoming families and serving the surrounding community.
