The Salvation Army of Lufkin is set to host its annual Fall Festival from October 23 to 25 at its gymnasium located at 412 S. Third St. in Lufkin. The event will feature food, games, and other activities, with times scheduled for 6-8 p.m. on Friday, noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday. According to Jaylen Sowell, community relations & development coordinator, the festival will include some surprises for attendees.

This year’s Fall Festival marks the fifth consecutive year the organization has held the event since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Prior to the pandemic, the Salvation Army of Lufkin had hosted the festival annually for the previous 20 years. The event serves as a community gathering and a means of raising awareness and support for the organization’s mission.

The Salvation Army of Lufkin operates as both a nonprofit charity organization and a ministry. The group includes a band composed of church members, reflecting its dual role in providing spiritual and practical aid. Captains Jenifer and Cavon Philips, who also serve as the organization’s commanding officers, oversee the nonprofit’s operations. Church services are held every Sunday at 11 a.m., with a Women’s Ministry session at 10 a.m. on Wednesdays.

In 2025, The Salvation Army of Lufkin provided assistance to over 27,000 individuals through food, housing, utility support, and Christmas aid, among other services. The organization’s efforts highlight its commitment to addressing community needs through both spiritual and material support.

The Salvation Army of Lufkin’s Red Kettle Campaign, a key fundraising initiative, will begin on November 13 with a celebration event at Brookshire Brothers at Gaslight Plaza. Sowell emphasized the need for volunteers for both the Fall Festival and the Red Kettle Campaign. Interested individuals can contact her at 936-634-5132 or via email at jaylen.sowell@uss.salvationarmy.org to get involved.

In addition to the Red Kettle Campaign, the Salvation Army of Lufkin hosts an annual luncheon in April and accepts donations from businesses and individuals throughout the year. These efforts reflect the organization’s ongoing dedication to serving the community through charitable and spiritual means.
