The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Jamestown has awarded Justin Hubbard the 2026 T. Richard Parker Award for Social Justice. The award, established in 1985 in memory of T. Richard Parker, a prominent leader of the congregation, recognizes individuals who demonstrate a commitment to social justice and community service.

Board President David Winner presented the award to Hubbard, acknowledging his founding and leadership of the Jamestown Justice Coalition (JJC). The JJC’s mission is to “Pursue recognition, dignity, and equity for people in our community and promote justice and democracy for all.” Hubbard’s work with the coalition reflects the congregation’s values of equity and social responsibility.

Justin Hubbard, a civics teacher at Salamanca High School, has been recognized for his dedication to civic education and community engagement. In 2022, he received the national American Civic Education Teacher Award. He has also served as a panelist, presenter, and keynote speaker for various organizations, including the NYS Bar Association and Columbia University Teachers College.

Hubbard, a graduate of Jamestown Community College, holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from SUNY Fredonia. His academic and professional background underscores his commitment to education and social justice, aligning with the Unitarian Universalist principles of justice and compassion.

Following the award presentation, Hubbard reflected on his personal journey, noting how the Black Lives Matter rally in Jamestown’s Dow Park in 2020, following the murder of George Floyd, inspired him to start the Jamestown Justice Coalition. His involvement highlights the intersection of personal conviction and community action in advancing social justice.

The T. Richard Parker Award honors individuals who exemplify the values of justice, equity, and community service. Hubbard’s recognition underscores the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Jamestown’s ongoing commitment to these principles through the work of its members and affiliated organizations.

A list of all Parker Award recipients is available on the congregation’s website, along with information about the congregation and the Jamestown Justice Coalition. These resources provide insight into the ongoing efforts of the community to promote justice and democracy.
