Kathleen Siler Perruci, 63, dies after battle with cancer in Marietta

Kathleen Siler Perruci, a devoted mother, educator, and community servant, passed away peacefully in Marietta on August 2, 2026, at the age of 63. She spent her final months surrounded by family, enduring a battle with cancer with grace and strength. Born to Patricia Ann Siler and Richard Keith Siler in Honolulu, HI, in 1963, Kathleen grew up in Seabrook, TX, where her father worked as a meteorologist at NASA Johnson Space Center. Her childhood was marked by adventure, from watching rocket launches to traveling across the country in her family’s Piper Cub airplane.
Kathleen’s academic excellence led her to Baylor University, where she double-majored in journalism and history as a National Merit Scholar. It was there that she met Gamaliel Perruci, Jr., a fellow student journalist, and they married on December 21, 1985. Gama’s career as a professor brought the family to Marietta in 1999, where Kathleen quickly became an active member of her church and community. She built lasting friendships through her book club and her involvement in local church ministries. Her commitment to service extended to Washington Elementary, where she volunteered with the school and its after-school program, offering support to children in need.
Kathleen’s compassion for her neighbors was evident in her work with Christ United Methodist Church, where she established a meal train program to assist members during difficult life events. Her home became a place of warmth and beauty, especially during the holidays, when she prepared for Handel’s Messiah, a tradition she cherished for over two decades. In warmer months, her yard was a vibrant display of daffodils, hibiscus, and towering zinnias, reflecting her love for nature and creativity.
Raising her three children—Caroline Perruci, Rebecca (Chris) Payne, and Alex (Sara) Perruci—was a central joy in Kathleen’s life. She instilled in them a deep appreciation for American history through educational family vacations, including a month-long camping trip across the American West. Her passion for film also shaped their upbringing, as they grew up immersed in classic movies, with many lines becoming part of their household language. Her children remember her as a constant source of encouragement, celebrating both major milestones and everyday achievements. She was always there to support them, whether helping Caroline with tea sales at the local farmers’ market or guiding her grandchildren, whom she affectionately called “Lala.”
Kathleen is survived by her children, two young granddaughters, Adalynn and Meredith Perruci, and her brothers, Richard (Jennifer) Siler and John (Becca) Siler.
